Five years ago a reckless sense of adventure took him across the world where he found a job leading canoe trips for Camp Tamakwa, and immediately found a home in the Canadian wilderness. An avid paddler, James is a two-time finisher of the marathon Brent Run canoe race, and has lead numerous trips through the lakes and rivers of Algonquin and Temagami. At any given opportunity, he would much rather spend a night in a tent than anywhere else. In his life before canoeing, James was a journalist and photographer. When not distracted by the unmatched natural beauty of the trip he’s about to take, he’ll be thoroughly documenting the journey in words and pictures. When the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to paddle across Canada alongside four good friends came up, James didn’t hesitate for a second. She enjoys spending her days appreciating the beauty of nature and interactions of everyday life. Despite being born in Houston, Texas, making her the sole American of the trip, has always had a calling to the great north! The Canadian Wilderness has been her home for seven summers. Marissa started out as a camper and for four consecutive years worked as a canoe tripper at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Provincial Park in Northern Ontario. She works for the University of Colorado Outdoor Program as a lead instructor for backpacking and paddling trips throughout the Western United States. Living in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains has been a wonderful home for the past 4 years and in May 2013 she will be graduating from University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.A. in International Relations and Latin American Studies. As Peter says, this is “a trip of a lifetime”, and a beautiful chance to raise awareness of the importance of conserving clean and free water systems.
